Observing the Strategy

As you watched Lisa implement Days 1, 2, and 3 of Dialogic Reading, you probably noticed that on Day 1 of Dialogic Reading, Lisa introduced the book and read the book aloud to the children. On Day 2, she pointed to realistic and identifiable objects illustrated throughout the book and asked “What” or “Who” questions to prompt children to label the pictures.

On Day 3, Lisa continued to point to realistic and identifiable objects illustrated throughout the book and asked “What” or “Who” questions to prompt children to label the pictures. Lisa also referred back to pictures discussed on Day 2 and reviewed those target words. Please take a few moments now to record your answers on the Observation Sheet for Days 1, 2, and 3.

Now that you have completed the first part of the Observation Sheet, watch as Kathy implements Day 4 and 5 of Dialogic Reading. Kathy is using a different book and has already completed Days 1, 2, and 3 with her children. She made sure that her children were familiar with the important vocabulary throughout the book before beginning Day 4 of Dialogic Reading.
